Hamilton Lake Trees (Plein Air) is a New Zealand painting made outside in the morning sun.
The fascinating colours and texture of the tree bark, combined with the light and shadows on the ground are what compelled me to pick this subject. I spent about an hour at Hamilton Lake painting the foundation of this piece, and later added more details in studio.
